Saluting the Etsy muted II

urbangipsy, who got an indefinite muting today. She opened shop in January of 2007.

Archivia, who received a one month muting for saying "Seriously gross" in an Etsy forum thread.

BlueKittyMinatures, another well-respected member of the Etsy community.
Christina Perdue, longtime Etsy seller and one of the organizers of the donations for designedbylucinda.
On a postive note, Admin signs your muting email "All the best." That has to count for something, doesn't it?
I'm sure there are more mute-ees who I haven't listed. I've seen the recent count at fifteen. My guess is that there will be a lot more before this is all over.

  1. Every damn one of 'em should have been muted long ago. Many more should follow. Hopefully admin will work overtime to catch up on those they missed. Here's my salute to the Etsy muted

  4. Not that I give a damn about any of 'em, but well-respected?
Perhaps by each other..but every one of them was arrogant, evil, cavilling, and whingey, as I recall..recall being the operative word, because, between the hositlity in the Forums and the hostile takeover of Handmade by multinational corporate shareholders, I was beyond ready to leave ComeNGetsy..so gald i did...

  5. One of those listed above happens to be a friend of mine. She is a kind and generous person and you referring to her as arrogant, evil, cavilling and whingey is really an interesting irony. As clearly you are willing to openly name call despite being completely ignorant on the matter makes you... what? Arrogant - evil - cavilling - whingey and several other choice words that come to my mind.

  9. Sorry but I think many of the mutings were well deserved. Some of those muted were snarky, mean, arrogant and bullyish.

I just don't get why, if the same sellers time and time again have so many gripes about Etsy, they don't leave. They seem so unhappy with Etsy, whine about it in the forums ad naseau, but continue to run their shops.

Etsy doesn't have to conform to their every whim.

    Do you mean ad nauseum?

  11. We don't leave because we have built a business there. To close shop would be a stupid business decision.

However, sellers who sell stuff, and promote Etsy, have actually also built Etsy.

I'd appreciate it if everyone could get along here. Give it a go, all right?

  12. It just seems that if people spent more time trying to build their businesses than they do trying "to build Etsy" or tear it down (whichever)and making and posting in "I hate Etsy Blogs and twitters and forums" and things maybe their businesses would be better off. I mean it's been what, year and years and years now of listing on Etsy and complaining 24/7 about everything they do or don't do? Doesn't that make sense to you-that if all that wasted effort was put into doing something for their shop or business that that would be more productive in the long run? And I'm not here to make trouble or not get along with anyone, but you made a blog post so I posted on it what I thought. What could you have done for your business, for instance, in the time it took to make and maintain this blog about the Etsy muted? Which is more important to you-keeping track of your friend's "my bads" in the forum, or your own business, because in reality you could probably disappear as a business tomorrow and within 3 months these people wouldn't even care anymore or remember who you were or wonder where you went or why you left.

  13. PussDaddy, I think you make a great point here. I was never one to criticize Etsy before. I appreciated, and still appreciate, having a place to sell my wares.

Honestly, it doesn't take me all that long to write a blog post. I don't really know if people would miss me if I disappeared. I don't even know some of the people who have been muted.

Remember the old saying "Etc. is not your diary"? I'm using this blog as my diary, because it gives me an excuse to research what's going on behind the scenes at Etsy, while documenting what's going on in public at Etsy. I also think a lot of people don't know about this information, and might like to.

My shop is doing all right, as well as anyone else's. I'm trying to figure out if keeping that business is the right thing to do. Right now, it's about the money. If I can make a profit there, I will probably stay.

But Etsy doesn't allow us to ask questions in the Forums anymore. They don't respond to emails. I'm thinking out loud here, and appreciate your feedback.

    Peace.

  14. I received a warning email (last week) about some comments I made over 3 weeks ago now.

    Why?

Because I told someone else that they didn't have the right to call those of us who had been on Etsy 5+ years, and who post in the Forums about our diagreement with Etsy changes, and/or our concerns, to call us Trolls.

That was deemed abusive and harassing.

Because I posted in a JOKE INSULT thread that someone wasn't nice, they were a sheep in wolf clothing. Never you mind that for dozens and dozens of pages beforehand, there'd been numerous of the same insults jokingly and laughingly hurled around.

This person comes in on the tail end of the thread, decides they don't want to play and reports me for it.

That was deemed 'personal dispute' and disrespectful. How it's a personal dispute when I'd never had any sort of business transaction, let alone interacted with this person before, is beyond me.

The third was a comment I made in a thread *I* started, about how I didn't believe an Admin actually read the entire thread(previous joke insult thread) otherwise they'd know it was all in fun.

That was deemed disrespectful and is the only one I grudgingly agreed with.

When I questioned the warning on each one, I received an email in response that told me exactly who reported what and why.

In my opinion, there are way worse of my comments that quite rightfully should have been reported. The first 2 reported comments I find the reporting of to be immature and disrespectful to ME.

Full disclosure of each and every comment/thread reported is in my blog.

  15. Wait, they told you who reported you? Not so classy, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Essentially, yes, Rob White himself named names in the response email.

Now, I'm not saying it's standard MO for them to tell you who reported you, but I get the feeling that if you actually email them and request an explanation, they'll tell you.

I don't think many people do that, honestly.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh I have been called a troll many a time on Etsy myself. When I was not being called a cupcake.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Why are people saying that Rob denied in the forum having given out anyone's name? I think this was an assumption on the part of the email recipient and not something that was actually said.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here is Rob White saying he denies having given otu anyone's name.

  21. Several people who have either been warned or muted have said that they were told in an email by admin who reported their posts in their offending threads.

  22. What "several people"? I only know of one making this claim and Rob White already addressed it.
